Why domestic violence?

The izzat of women in Pakistan is a commune collective, and hence anybody can comment, hurt, even hunt a woman down if she dares to deviate from the set path in our patriarchal society. Women are not a communal property and hence must rise against all mechanisms that are used to control and oppress them. Domestic violence is one of the major tools used to oppress women on a day to day basis at home.

Inspiration for this project comes from the following. http://www.thestar.com/living/article/1297354--heartbeats-the-izzat-project-brings-taboo-of-honour-and-violence-to-the-fore#.UL7HoWFrMe8.facebook

We plan to use all forms of communications, including, paintings, installations, flyers, videos and posters to spread awareness regarding domestic violence on the streets. The initial stage of the project is to collect resources and materials via our existing network. The idea is to extend the project and instead of limiting it to online or drawing room activism, take it to the streets. Once the initial stage, that is resource and material collection is done videos, paintings, installations, flyers etc will be taken to different neighbourhoods of Karachi. It would be great if volunteers from other cities, towns and rural areas can come join in too.

Important links to browse through while the project goes through its initial stage of collecting resources and materials till it materializes on the streets of Pakistan.
